The short version

  • Your messages, calendar events and files stay on your Mac.
  • Agent approvals go straight between your agent and VibeNotch. Nothing passes through our servers.
  • Payments and license keys are handled by Polar, not us.
  • We don't sell your data or show you ads.

Who we are

VibeNotch is a macOS app made by Rayan (byrayan.dev). In this policy, "we" and "us" mean the person behind VibeNotch, and "you" means anyone using the app or this website.

What stays on your Mac

VibeNotch does its work on your Mac. The following never leaves it because of us:

  • Your name. You type it during setup so the notch can greet you. It's saved in the app's settings on your Mac.
  • Agent requests. Claude Code, Cursor and Codex send permission requests to VibeNotch through their own hook systems, and your answer goes straight back to the agent.
  • Calendar events. VibeNotch reads the calendars already on your Mac, with your permission, or fetches events straight from Google or Outlook if you connect them. Either way, the events go only to your Mac.
  • Files. Files you drop in the tray are converted on your Mac. AirDrop sends a file only when you choose to.
  • Music and video. The player shows what's playing on your Mac, including the title of a playing browser tab.

Google, Outlook, Slack and Discord

When you connect one of these, you sign in through its official sign-in page and choose what to allow. VibeNotch then talks to that service directly from your Mac to show your meetings and notifications and send your Slack replies. The sign-in token is kept in your Mac's Keychain.

Discord is the one exception to "directly". Discord requires a secret to finish signing in, and a secret can't safely ship inside an app, so that step goes through a small function on this website. It passes Discord's one-time sign-in code or renewal token to Discord and hands the result straight back to your Mac. It doesn't store or log either of them.

We never see your messages or calendar. You can disconnect any service at any time in VibeNotch settings, and you can also remove access from that account's own settings. Each service's own privacy policy applies to what you do there.

Claude usage

To show your Claude usage and the countdown to your limit reset, VibeNotch reads your usage on your Mac. That information is shown in the notch and isn't sent to us.

Buying and license keys

Purchases go through Polar, which acts as the seller (merchant of record). Polar takes your payment, using Stripe to process cards, handles VAT, and emails your receipt and a link to your license key. We never see your full card details. Polar shares your name, email address, country and order details with us so we can help with your order. Polar's privacy policy, linked from the checkout, covers what they do with your data.

When you enter your key, VibeNotch checks it with Polar and registers that Mac, so a key can be used on 1 Mac at a time. This sends your key and a name for that Mac. Deactivating a Mac in settings removes it.

The 3-day free trial runs inside the app. Starting a trial doesn't send us anything.

Updates

When it opens, and every few hours after that, VibeNotch checks for new versions by downloading a small file from this website that lists the latest release. Like any web request, this shares your IP address with the website's host. Nothing else is sent, and it doesn't identify you.

This website

This site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested, to run and protect the service. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser asks Google's servers for them.

The site doesn't use cookies, analytics or tracking scripts. The name box on the home page only changes the demo on your screen and isn't saved or sent anywhere.

Your rights

Under UK and EU data protection law, you can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and object to how we use it. In practice we hold very little: the order details Polar shares with us, and any emails you send us.

To make a request, email hey@byrayan.dev. If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or your local data protection authority.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update it here and change the date at the top. If a change affects how the app handles your data, we'll mention it in the release notes too.
